Itinerary

Pick up from the hotel before sunrise, on our tourist bus, to Mollepata where we will have breakfast. Then, we move to the town of Cruzpata, to start the Salkantay Trek. On this first day, we will walk along the road until Soraypampa, inmerse ourself in the open valleys that dominate this section of the Andes. Arrival in Soraypampa and accommodation in Glass Igloos, then we will enjoy a delicious lunch. After the midday, we will visit Humantay Lagoon, located at 4,180 masl, which has beautiful views and if the sky is clear enough, we can even see the impressive Apus Salkantay and Humantay. We will have free time to take pictures, and for the bravest swimming in the lake when the sun comes up. Return to Soraypampa. Dinner and overnight.

The second day is by far the most difficult day of Salkantay Trek. We will have breakfast at dawn and start the hike to the highest point of “Paso Salkantay “ at 4650 masl. From this place, we will have an incredible and overall view of Vilcabamba Mountain Range. We descend from this ponti towards Wayracmachay “La Cueva donde vive el viento” (the cave where the wind lives) where we are going to enjoy nice lunch. Then, we will continue walking downhill until we reach our camp (3 Hrs.). Accommodation in the lodge (2,870 masl.) and night off. Overnight.

Breakfast at the lodge. This day we will walk by the Valley of Santa Teresa River, through the most populated rural areas. We will pass by banana, caffee and passion fruit plantations, avocado groves, among others. In this region, Coffee is considered the best organic coffee in the world. We will continue our way to a fascinating place called “Inca Trail Llactapata“, where we farewell to our horses and staff. A short walk through an avocado orchard will take us to our Glass Igloo in Lucmabamba. Dinner, accommodation and overnight.

After our breakfast, we will go uphill for 2-3 hours to Paso Llactapata (2,736 m.a.s.l) where we will have a privileged view of the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. We will take a short break to explore the Llactapata archaeological site, which has been recently restored. We will continue to a scenic viewpoint overlooking Machu Picchu and there we will enjoy our lunch. Then we will begin the final descent to the Aobamba River through lush bamboo forests, orchards and coffee plantations. We will arrive at the town of the train station in Hidroeléctrica and continue along the side of the railway to Machu Picchu Pueblo. Arrival and accommodation in hotel. Overnight

After a very early buffet breakfast at the hotel, we go to the bus station to go up to Machu Picchu Historical Sanctuary (30 minutes). Our guide will give an previous explanation of the tour. Around 6 am we will begin walking up to the best point of view to take a photograph of “La Casa del Guardian” (The Guardian’s House), after 30 free minutes our guide will give us detailed and extensive information about the city of the Incas during about 1 hour. You will have time to continue delighting in this beautiful landscape. Then we will descend to Aguas Calientes by bus and then board the Expedition train at 4:22 p.m. to get to Ollantaytambo train station, where we will meet our private van and be transferred to Cusco.
