Festivities in July

Independence Day

Around Peru is organized many parties and celebrations in order to remember the declaration of the Independence of Peru (28th July, 1821). In Lima, other cities and even in far villages, people decorate their homes facade with the wonderful Peruvian flag from first days of the month. The previous night (27th July), folk and criollo music are presented in various squares and parks. The dawn of the 28th is greeted with a salvo of 21 gunshots, as a preamble to the ceremony of raising the flag and then the Te Deum ceremony take place in the Cathedral of Lima, with the participation of the President. It ends on 29th with the famous Military Parade. Agricultural fairs are organized in various parts of the country (Cajamarca, Piura, Monsefú) along with three festivals that of Criollismo: cockfights, bullfights and exhibitions of Peruvian Paso Horses.
