Itinerary

Early in the morning, we leave Cusco. We will cross interesting inter-Andean valleys and picturesque rural communities. We will visit pre-Inca tombs, and then we will stop in Paucartambo, a beautiful colonial town. Lunch on the route. We continue to cloud forest, an area very rich in endemic species such as Spectacled Bear and Gallito de las Rocas, orchids, bromeliads, ferns, etc.

Then, we will continue our tour to Pilcopata Town, then we will move to the port of Atalaya, located on the banks of Alto Madre de Dios River 700 meters, from we will start to descend by boat to observe an enormous diversity of bird, such as Herons, vultures and cormorants etc.   until we reach the lodge. We will walk along interesting trails between high and low jungle and our guide will search, show and explain the interesting wildlife diversity around us.  Dinner. At nightfall, we will have the chance for a night walk to catch a glimpse of insects and amphibians. Overnight.

Very early, we will board our boat to go to Collpa, a wall of the river where the different species of parrots such as the blue-headed parrot, white-eyed parakeet and possibly the Maracano macaw, among others go down every morning to extract clay for its feeding. At the end of this daily activity we return to our lodge for breakfast, pack up and take our boat to navigate through Alto Madre de Dios River to go to hot springs of Aguas Calientes sourrounded by our wonderful jungle.

After relaxing in the water and a refreshing cold lunch, we wil continue to the town of Boca Manu. During the journey, we will see birds like skimmers, herons, several species of kingfishers, swallows and flycatchers. Overnight.

Breakfast at the lodge. At dawn, we will make a brief stop at the Limonal Ranger Station where we will register in the visitor’s book to enter in the reserve. We continue on the Manu River towards the heart of the reserve for about 4 hours to Lake Salvador, where we will spend the next two nights in a safari camp. During this trip we can often see a variety of bird species like macaws, herons, pink rosettes and with a Little luck, capybaras, caimans, river turtles, monkeys, and hopefully some felines often sunning on the beaches or feeding in surrounding trees. In the afternoon we spend our time walking in search of wildlife in a pristine forest. Overnight.

 We will most likely be woken early by the howler monkey declaring his territory. Before breakfast we start this day with a morning walk as the temperature at this time is more pleasant and it makes it a bit easier to find animals who are in search of food. We will explore Lake Salvador by catamarán and try to see the giant otter, an endangered specie. They can be seen fishing, playing or swimming as well as around us are the Black Cayman, the Hoatzin, etc. We will visit Lake Otorongo and the observation tower which is 15m heigh and allow us to appreciate the landscape of the surounding primary forest. Returno to the hotel.There may be a possiblity to do a short night walk to look for American bullfrogs, horned frogs , tree frogs and a host of colorful insects. Overnight.

We will wake early again to take a walk around our campsite and Lake Salvador. We will be amazed by the gigantic Ceibas, colorful butterflies and curious squirrel, capuchin and wooly monkeys. After breakfast we will pack up, board our boat and head down the Manu River to continue our experience and keep our eyes open for peccaries (hogs), caymans, turtles and birds. We arrive at Boca Manu at dusk. Overnight at the lodge.

Breakfast at the lodge. Today we will cross the Alto Madre de Dios River, against the current, beholding the beuty of the Peruvian jungle. At nightfall, we will arrive at our Lodge where we can rest comfortably and spend our last night, surrounded by the magic of the jungle.

We get up very early, we have breakfast and travel up the river to Atalaya Port where our bus is waiting to take us back to Cusco. Box lunch during the route. Arriving early evening.
