A complete tour that joins Ausangate and Rainbow Mountain Vinicunca. According to the Andean Cosmovision (world view), the Apu Ausangate is the most important sacred mountain in the surroundings of Cusco and the highlands. Under an old legend of Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, this sacred mountain is located to the south east of the city of Cusco, capital of called the Inca Empire. This trek give us an spectacular and beautiful landscape of the puna region, where glaciers surround our visual field, lagoons dazzle us and  Andean camelids will accompany us in some parts.

Itinerary

Before sunrise, we pick up from the hotel in Cusco to move to Tinqi, the starting point for our circuit to Ausangate Mountain. In Tinqi we will meet our porters and we have time to buy snacks or last minute supplies before starting the trek. Our trek to our first camp in Upis will be approximately three hours. In some parts of our way we can see potato fields, small farms, and alpaca or llama groups before reaching Upis. The air gets colder as we get closer to Ausangate and its impressive glaciers. We arrive in Upis in the afternoon, and we will have the option to enjoy the hot springs after lunch. Upis is at 4,350 meters above sea level, so we must prepare for the first cold night. Overnight in the camp.

Trek Time: 5 Hrs.

After breakfast, we will continue our walking up to Paso Arapa, at 4,750 m.a.s.l. The climb will be about two hours, and we will cross through a valley with little vegetation. When we will be in the valley we will enjoy panoramic views of the majestic Ausangate Mountain and its surroundings. We will make a stop for lunch next to Lake Yanacocha. Thereafter, our trek continues across plains to the second Puka Qocha camp located near Ausangate Mountain and glacial lakes. At night, the sky will be clear with a clear view to take incredible pictures of the Milky Way. Overnight

Trek Time: 6-7 Hrs.

After our nutritious breakfast, we will begin the most extensive walk on a steep path, from this point we can see snow-capped mountains in different directions and valleys with red hills. Our walk continues downhill to the valley, then we will walk up to reach Ananta 4,600 masl where we will have lunch. We continue our walk uphill for about 2 hours to reach the next paso called Warmisaya at 4,999 m.a.s.l. from this place, we can appreciate the splendor of Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain. The last section is downhill for 30 minutes to reach the third camp located in Qomer Qocha 4,679 m.a.s.l. Free time, overnight.

Trek Time: 7-8 Hrs.

After breakfast, a great day awaits us along the most beautiful trails in Cusco. From our camp we will hike for an hour and a half approx. to reach our last tourist attaction: Rainbow Mountain Vinicuna. When we arrive, we will have enough time to enjoy this unique and magical place, it is one of the most impressive geological formations in the Andes. Recommended by “National Geographic” as one of the most beautiful places you should visit. Afterwards, we will walk through a valley to reach our last lunch place, we will say farewell to our muleteers, cooks and finally we will return to Cusco.
